Make Representation Based on Living Space

Flashes of brilliance. That's what we in Student Assembly have given you over the years. Since my freshman winter I've been a member of the Assembly. I've seen the hard work and the dedication that the members have put into committee and project work. But sadly, there is a vast disconnection between the Assembly and the student body we attempt to represent. Only rarely can we claim that we have touched the student body -- a large portion of the campus doesn't know that we are more than a debate club. Although she has worked very hard to advance student interests, too many freshmen have never spoken with their student body president.

I want to take those flashes of brilliance and turn them into a beacon, a beacon of accountability and representation. I want to create true representation, where each student has someone who lives nearby to speak for him or her in the Assembly. Not this faade of representation where the Assembly uses various organizations as intermediaries, but an Assembly that is in touch with the students it serves. I want to be your president, a president who meets with you and is accessible to any student who needs me. I am the only candidate with the experience in Assembly to know what needs to be changed and the courage to change it.

If you're satisfied with a Student Assembly that isn't accountable to you, then I am not the person to vote for. If you want passive and submissive leadership, I am not the candidate for you. However, if you want an accessible and accountable Student Assembly, vote for me. If you want a visible and forceful student body president, someone who will not compromise your interests for the next step in their resume, vote Karim Mohsen '03 for student body president.

The Proactive Platform:

  1. Giving voice to the voiceless, by increasing office hours and making the president engage the community.

  2. Increasing the visibility of the office of the president after the election.

  3. Understanding that the president does not preside over the student body but lobbies for them.

  4. Reducing campus segregation through increased social interaction and dialogue sessions.

5.Increasing communication between the Assembly and you, our employers, through a weekly newsletter and an on-line suggestion board.

6.Restructuring the Assembly so that students have a personal representative residing with them. This representative will be available for your communication needs and accountable to you.

7.Bridging the gap between the Assembly and all campus organizations and groups through increased dialogue and meetings.
