Quakers Will Win Big in NY

It's three weeks into the Ivy football season and only five league games have been played. Yale (2-1, 1-1) and Dartmouth (1-2, 1-1) are the sole teams to have played in two Ivy contests, and with each splitting their results, it's fair to say that the league title is still within reach for each school. Here's the rundown on what the other Ivies will be up to:

Pennsylvania at Columbia: The undefeated Penn Quakers ( 3-0, 1-0 ) head to uptown Manhattan to take on the hapless Lions. With the return of All-Ivy running back Jonathan Reese, one would have thought that Columbia ( 0-3, 0-1) could have at least gotten by Lafayette last week, but the Lions couldn't even pull that one off. Look for Penn's Kris Ryan and Gavin Hoffman to run and pass Penn to a huge victory.

Harvard at Cornell: Harvard (3-0, 1-0 ) is also off to an undefeated start. After a convincing win over Brown in its opener, the Crimson glided through two easy nonleague games. By contrast, Cornell ( 0-3, 0-1) has been a major disappointment. After losing to Penn in last year's winner-take-all season finale, Cornell seems but a shadow of its former self. However, if Cornell somehow pulls out the win at home, it will only help Dartmouth's title run.

Princeton at Brown: More league implications will be on the line as the Brown Bears ( 1-2, 0-1) host Princeton ( 1-2, 1-0 ). Brown's season got off to a rough start against Harvard. Now the Bears will try to rebound at home against a weaker Princeton team, which got what may be its only Ivy win when it toppled Columbia at home earlier this season. All-Ivy running back Michael Malan should have a field day running through Princeton's linebacking corps.

Fordham at Yale: A win over Dartmouth was supposed to culminate Yale's Tricentennial. However, the Big Green already had a party of its own planned. Now Yale will have a reprieve as it faces one of the worst Division 1-AA teams in the nation. Yale will win big.
