Baseball hammers Big Red pitching

The Big Green took a major step forward towards a potential berth in the postseason yesterday with key back-to-back victories over Cornell University at Quinnipiac University.

The game, originally scheduled for Sunday, was postponed until yesterday afternoon. With 12-11 and 11-4 victories, the Big Green improved to 9-10 overall and 4-4 in Ivy League play.

Mike Levy '01 was without a doubt the player of the day with a double in the first game and three hits in the nightcap. His double plunged Levy into Dartmouth's all-time record books, placing him 10th on the all-time career hits list.

John Velosky '02 provided some stellar pitching in the first game, going seven full innings to earn the victory. He received good run support from Mike Mileusnic '03, who went 3-4, and Brian Nickerson '00, who went 2-2 with two walks.

Mileusnic's walk in the bottom half of the seventh inning scored the winning run, forcing in Levy from third base.

The second game featured a brilliant performance from Patrick Dowling '04, who won his first game of the season, pithcing six innings in relief and giving up a scant four hits and one earned run.

Once again, Mileusnic, Levy and Nickerson fought off several difficult pitches to provide runs for Dowling. Mileusnic had three hits in the second game, while Scott Shirrell '04 and Nickerson had two hits apiece.

The Big Green are scheduled to play a pair of home doubleheaders against Brown this weekend, weather permitting. The game at Vermont originally scheduled for today has been rescheduled for May 2nd.
