Volleyball wins in three games

The women's volleyball team thoroughly crushed the University of Vermont Wednesday night with a 3-0 victory over the 0-23 team. Nearly every Dartmouth player had the opportunity to play in the lop-sided pounding, which was the first shutout for the Big Green since Sept. 23.

"When a team is 0-22,you really can't afford to be that one team that gives them a win," said team Captain Ashley Dean '02. "I think we were looking to get there and do our job and get right back on the bus and that's what we did."

Dartmouth came out cruising and promptly blew open the match with a 15-2 win in the game one. In the second game, the Big Green were already well on their way to an easy 15-6 victory before some of the crowd could even figure out the point-scoring system.

With Dartmouth giving some of its bench players additional time in the final game, the Catamounts put up more of a fight but still couldn't prevail, losing 15-13.

Anne Jakle '03 had seven kills to lead the team while Jordan Schmidt '03 tallied 17 assists. Kaino Fialkowksi '04 had her best match of the season with seven digs, a career-high.

The win improves Dartmouth to 10-13 on the year, marking the team's sixth consecutive 10-win season.

The team will play at the Harvard Invitational on Saturday. Next weekend, the women will compete in the Ivy League Championship at Harvard.

"This Ivy season has been very unpredictable with wins and losses, which is going to make for an exciting tournament," Dean said.
