Big Green basketball star Shaun Gee '00 is considering an extension to his basketball career beyond his four years at Dartmouth.
Currently on the table is an offer to play next year for the BC Mess of Luxembourg.
For a week at the end of April, Gee traveled with a team of 10 other U.S. All-Stars to Norway, where they played against the Norwegian National Champion Urliken Eagles. He is expecting to see several other offers from overseas teams in the next few weeks.
Gee said that the trip gave the U.S. team enough exposure to merit a few European offers for each of the players.
"I think it's a great opportunity to see other parts of the world, and make a living as an athlete," said Gee. "Not a bad situation to be in."
Gee, a power forward, started all 27 games for the Big Green this winter and wrapped up his career as fourth all-time scorer with 1,548 career points.
Gee was recommended to the Luxembourg team by a Yale graduate who played overseas after his graduation.
A biochemistry major, Gee also sees professional basketball only in the short-term scheme of his future. He hopes to play for a few years before returning to the States to pursue a job in tissue engineering with a biotech company.
If he does opt to sign with a European team, Gee's initial contract will be for one year and "either side can terminate."
And as for compensation? "It varies," he said. "Probably $20, 000 to $60,000, plus some free perks like a house and a car."
Not the NBA, but definitely not bad.
