Baseball traps Eagles in top regional battle

The Dartmouth baseball team improved its school record yesterday when a 14-8 win over Boston College gave them their 29th victory of the season as the Big Green proved they could play top regional competition as they defeated the No. 1 team in New England.

Dartmouth's bats stepped up after Bryn Alderson '03 took the hill in the fifth to break out of a 7-1 deficit.

The Green scored nine runs in a sixth inning rally off BC starter Paul Knapic. After giving up three singles, Knapic quickly deteriorated on the mound allowing Brian Nickerson '00 to score on a wild pitch. He gave free passes to the next three Dartmouth batters, while walking in two.

Mike Levy '01 drove in a run, and James Little '00 cleared the bases with a two-out double. He tied a Dartmouth record for hits (201). Little, who was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBIs also broke a Dartmouth career record for runs, pushing the new mark to 141.

Mike Mileusnic '03, who has made his presence on this year's Dartmouth team, stepped up for Aaron Meyer '00 who has had difficulty recovering from a sprained back sustained at the start of the season. He went 4-for-5 in yesterday's contest with three runs scored and four RBIs also added a homerun in the seventh inning.

Alderson replaced starter Brian Gattis '03, who allowed six runs in four innings.

Jon Miller '00 entered the game in the seventh inning to hurl three scoreless innings and lock the win for the Big Green. He earned his sixth save of the season.

Dartmouth begins the Ivy Championship playoffs on Saturday against Princeton for a best of three series.
