The Dartmouth

Men's lacrosse falls to Eli, 10-4

Sophomore Brian Hunt, who was just named to the Ivy honor roll after a 12-point performance in two games last week, scored four more to help Yale rout Dartmouth 10-4 for its fourth consecutive win yesterday afternoon in Hanover.

The Bulldogs have now won 42 of the 70 match-ups between the two teams, including the last five in a row.

From the opening whistle, it was apparent that the Big Green was off its game. Errant passes and sloppy stick-handling plagued Dartmouth throughout the game.

Yale's Mike Scaglione took advantage of a man-up opportunity to drive and score off an assist from Hunt three minutes into the game. Hunt then proceeded to dismantle the Dartmouth defense for four consecutive goals, most of them coming as a result of deep penetration near the crease.

Yale's defense also took control, preventing Dartmouth from putting pressure on freshman goalkeeper Eric Wenzel.

The Big Green finally got on the board with a goal by Jeremy Desor '00 nearly eight minutes into the second period. Desor added another goal to close out the half with Dartmouth trailing 5-2.

Dartmouth looked to be mounting a comeback as Georges Dyer '01 scored midway through the third quarter, narrowing the deficit to two. Yale dashed any hopes of that happening, however, by scoring four unanswered goals, including two by sophomore Marko Lujic, to make the score 9-3 with 12:45 remaining in the game.

Gregg Edell '00 scored off the next face-off, but that would be the end of the Big Green threat. Scaglione solidified the final score with his third goal of the game, coming at 3:40 remaining in the fourth period.

Dartmouth goalie Patrick McClammer '02, still hampered by an ankle injury, played nearly the entire game, saving 12 and giving up 10. Although McClammer did make errors throughout the game, the Big Green defense was responsible for giving Yale several open looks.

Wenzel saved nine and gave up four in his 60 minutes of play. Lujic added two assists.

The loss drops Dartmouth to 4-6 on the season, and more importantly, 0-3 in the Ivy League. Dartmouth's three remaining conference opponents, Brown, Princeton, and Harvard, all have winning records and are nationally ranked. The Big Green travels to Providence this Saturday to take on Brown.
