Men's lacrosse ends drought vs. UVM

Freshmen Ryan Beible and Jake Dwyer led Dartmouth with two goals apiece in an 8-5 victory over Vermont yesterday afternoon in Hanover. The Big Green, who snapped a three-game losing streak, led throughout the game.

Dartmouth took the lead early on Beible's goal, who followed that up with his second several minutes later to give the Big Green a 2-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Schuyler Minert '01 fought light rains and a wet field to rifle a shot past Catamount goalkeeper Brendan Hall with 7:33 remaining in the half.

After a Vermont score, Dwyer broke through to net his first goal of the game. Another freshman, Casey Burlage, scored off a pass from Connor Price '02 with just over a minute remaining in the period to give Dartmouth a comfortable 5-2 lead going into the break.

The second half was much of the same, as Georges Dyer '01 and Dwyer scored the next two goals for the Big Green. Vermont closed the gap late in the third quarter with goal by Doug Moses and Kip Edwards, but Price responded with a goal coming at 7:07 in the fourth.

Dartmouth goalie Patrick McClammer '02 quelled any threat by making several key stops in the final minutes of play. He saved 14 shots in 60 minutes of play.

Meanwhile, Hall made 16 saves in the net for the Catamounts. Moses led Vermont with two goals. Along with his goal, Edwards added an assist.

The loss, Vermont's third consecutive, drops them to 4-8 on the season while Dartmouth improves to 5-7 (0-4 Ivy).

The Big Green will look to get their first Ivy league win over nationally-ranked Princeton Saturday afternoon at Scully-Fahey field. Dartmouth concludes its season the following weekend at Harvard on Saturday, May 6.
