This year's theme, "Lest the Cold Traditions Fail," was chosen as a way to look back and examine history, Winter Carnival Committee Co-Chair Amish Parashar '03 said.
The carnival used to be centered on winter sports, Parashar said, recently the focus has shifted much more towards the festivities. This year's snow sculpture, a ski jump, highlights the event that was once the center of the Carnival weekend. Several other events including tomorrow night's Winter Ball, a long-standing Dartmouth tradition, also reflect Carnival history.
The committee hopes for an amusement park atmosphere this year with several events including a tubing park at the golf course, and the continuation of the polar bear dip.
