After a slow start to their season, Dartmouth softball turned things around Thursday, sweeping a doubleheader from the Braves of Quinnipiac College at Sachem Field.
Freshman Sarah Damon was excited about the team's growth and improvement.
"We played crisp and clean, and we didn't have any errors," Damon said. "We played like a championship team today, and we showed a lot of heart."
In the first game, Laura Mills '00 fanned nine en route to a complete game 2-1 victory. Mills was dominant throughout scattering just four hits while picking up her third win of the season.
All of Dartmouth's offense came with two outs in the fifth inning when sophomore Carrie Sekela lined a double off the centerfield fence, driving in Damon and Kristin King '02. Sekela was 2-for-3 on the day with two RBIs.
In the nightcap, the Big Green put on a hitting clinic, pounding out a season-high14 hits in a 9-5 victory.
Carrie Hoverman '01 led the way with two hits and three RBIs. Meanwhile, Damon and Cherie Comeau '02 each finished the game with three hits and two runs scored.
Jenny Harsey '01, Sekela, and King also added two hits each, tearing apart four different Quinnipiac hurlers.
After a disappointing 3-8 record on their trip to Florida, the team is hopeful that Thursday's games will be a crucial turning point for their season.
"I knew we'd have some growing pains," said Damon, "but I definitely think these two wins show that we are going to have a great season and that we are going to turn some heads on the field."
