Man exposes himself near local trail

A Dartmouth student who was jogging on Mink Brook Trail by the Connecticut River in Hanover on Monday afternoon, saw something unusual on her daily run -- a male exposing himself and masturbating on the bank of the river.

"I didn't feel threatened by him. [He] just frightened me a little. I think I just interrupted him, granted he was in a public place," the student, who wished to remain anonymous, said.

The female student immediately called Safety and Security, who connected her to the Hanover Police.

After a day-long investigation, the police said yesterday they have a suspect.

"We didn't catch up with him yesterday, but now we have a suspect," Hanover Police Chief Nick Giaccone said. "If he is charged, he will be charged with indecent exposure -- a misdemeanor which could result in up to one year in prison."

The male suspect is not a Dartmouth student or a Hanover resident, and has not committed any similar misdemeanors before, Giaccone said.

The student described the suspect as a tall, slender white male, in his mid-to-late 30s, with long hair and a goatee.

The police said this kind of incident is not rare and students should report incidents of a similar nature to the police as soon as they can.

"There are plenty of cases like this," Giaccone said. "Even this past winter, we had an individual who was arrested on the golf course."
