Soccer Doubleheader
This season, for the first time in school history, both the Dartmouth men's and women's soccer teams are ranked in the national coaches polls at the same time. On Monday, when the latest rankings came out, the Big Green women were a best-ever 10th while the men were 17th.
With that in mind, Saturday will be twice as nice for soccer fans of the Upper Valley, as both Big Green teams are in action on Chase Field. The Dartmouth men kick things off at noon, meeting St. Francis University of New York. Following that, the Dartmouth women face off with the University of Pennsylvania in one of this fall's marquee Ivy matchups.
Admission will be charged for the matches. Ticket prices are $4 for adults, $2 for youths aged 14 and under, and $2 for Dartmouth College students with ID.
"We got a huge win Wednesday, and really put ourselves in even better standing for the postseason," said Dartmouth women's coach Kelly Blasius Knudsen. "On Saturday, we'll try to do what we've done on the road this year, which is put the ball in the goal. We have learned to respect Penn -- prior to last year, I don't think we did."
The Big Green men enter the weekend with a 6-1 record after gaining a 1-0 win over Boston College on Tuesday. The men face a test in the Terriers, however. St. Francis comes to Hanover boasting a 9-3 mark that ranks them second in the New York region behind 1996 NCAA champion St. John's.
Both Dartmouth teams are looking for some revenge this weekend, as well. The women lost twice to Penn last year, including a loss that cost them the Ivy League championship. The men, meanwhile, were beaten by St. Francis in 1996.
