The Dartmouth

Editor's Note

As the final weeks of summer count down and the butterflies of anticipation begin to multiply in your stomach, the reality of becoming a Dartmouth student inches closer everyday.

And though friends, relatives, campus visits and Dartmouth's reputation in general have filled your head with notions of what to expect, nothing will matter once you step onto campus to assume your place as a member of the Class of 2002.

What you will undoubtedly encounter at Dartmouth is a proud and diverse community where any interest of any nature can be be met and truly challenged.

As you begin your life-long relationship with the College, take hold of its amazing institutions and use them for everything they have to offer. Given a little impetus on your part, the mirad of opportunities at Dartmouth will in no time respond to your inquiries.

There is no telling what past Dartmouth students would give to stand in your shoes today.

Appreciate this incredible step you are about to take, for it won't be long until -- with a tassle dangling in your face and a diploma stuck in your hand -- you will be politely asked to leave.

In writing this Freshman Issue, we have hoped to provide an outline for what awaits you at the College on the Hill.

The love, respect and sense of pride we feel for Dartmouth is something we hope will as easily transmit to you as it has to us.

We have no doubt that you've worked hard to get to where you are. Enjoy the fruits of that labor, but get ready to begin what will undoubtedly be a tougher yet more rewarding journey.
