Women's sailing heads to national championships

The Women's sailing team will head to New Orleans this weekend as one of the favorites to bring home the national title. The championships begin on Monday and continue through Wednesday with 16 teams competing for the top spot in the nation.

Casey Hogan '99 and Shannon Law '00 will sail in the A division for the Big Green, while Leigh Lucas '98 and Erin Myers '00 sail in the B division.

Dartmouth has been near the top of the national polls all yearlong, occupying the No.1 spot for a good portion of the season. Brown, Navy and St. Mary's comprise the toughest competition sailing against the Big Green.

"We have been sailing well all year and we should have a good chance of winning if we keep our minds in it," Law said. "We have a lot of talent going down so there are a lot of combinations of sailors that could allow us to do well."

"I have sailed at nationals and finished in the top four every year, but this year's team is our strongest team," Lucas said.
