Rogers, Buckley named Academic All-Americans for Big Green

Cross-country runner Jenna Rogers '99 and hockey player Jeremiah Buckley '98 were named District I All-Americans for their achievements in their respective sports and in the classroom.

Rogers, an art history major, was named to the NCAA All-American in the 5,000 meters for the women's cross-country team that finished fourth in the nation. Buckley, an economics major, played left wing for the Big Green hockey team that just narrowly missed the ECAC playoffs.

District I represents the Northeast region, and both players will now be eligible to become a national Academic All-American when balloting is conducted in late April. Last year, basketball captain Sea Lonergan '97 made first-team Academic All-American.

Women's Lacrosse

The Big Green women's lacrosse team has their home opener today as they square off against Boston College at Chase Field at 3 p.m. Dartmouth is coming off a 12-10 victory over Yale to open up their Ivy League season. Sophomore Jacque Weitzel was named Ivy League co-offensive player of the week for her performances against Maryland and Yale in which she tallied 10 goals and 2 assists. The Big Green is currently ranked 12th in the nation.

Third- ranked Princeton continues to pace the Ancient Eight with an overall record of 5-0, having tallied 65 goals in those five games. Junior Cristi Samras earned co-offensive player of the week thanks to her career-high nine points against Columbia. Samras leads the league in both goals and total points. Princeton, Cornell, Harvard and Dartmouth are all 1-0 in Ivy League play.

Cornell's victory over Penn was their first league win since April 1, 1995, a stretch of 16 games.

Softball

The Big Green open up their home season when they face St. Anselm College this afternoon at 3 p.m. Dartmouth is coming off a miserable start which saw them go 2-11 on their Florida road trip. Fortunately for the Big Green, Brown's 0-10 start has prevented Dartmouth from last place in the Ivy League. Cornell is the class of the league as they are off to an amazing 13-3 start.

Men's Lacrosse

Dartmouth opens up league play against Pennsylvania this Saturday at Chase Field. Dartmouth started off an impressive 3-0 before losing to top-ranked UNC and then falling to Stony Brook.

Cornell sits atop the league standings with a 2-0 record courtesy of the strong play of junior Michael Voris, who had a career high four goals against Penn. For his efforts, Voris was named Ivy League offensive player of the week.
