Gazette Article on Famous Alumni Failed to Represent Women's Contributions

To the Editor:

I am indeed impressed by the stellar achievements of Dartmouth graduates chronicled in Friday's Weekend Gazette [The Dartmouth, Feb. 27]. I am also, however, dismayed to note that all 14 alums featured as political and business leaders are men, and only two of the 12 artists and entertainers are women.

Surely in the past 25 years since the College began to admit women we have produced at least one female political pundit or impressive business woman. Likewise, I know there are enough female graduates doing outstanding work in the arts for your coverage to present a balanced overview.

Let me note, too, that Dartmouth has assuredly graduated numerous noteworthy people of color -- men and women -- who would make more inclusive and more accurate your pictures (literally and figuratively) of success in these fields. I will leave it to your able staff to do the research.
