Women's Basketball: The Dartmouth women were in action away at Colgate on Friday and at home against Lafayette on Sunday. Friday night, Dartmouth defeated Colgate 59-50 behind 13 points of Erin Rewalt '99. Bess Tortolani '99 and Nicci Renaldi '99 also shot in nine. On Sunday, the Big Green had another good performance, defeating Lafayette 69-48. Freshman Courtney Banghart came off the bench to score 15 points for the Big Green. Rinaldi had 13 points on the day. Men's Basketball: The Big Green men opened their regular season play at home with two big wins Friday and Sunday afternoon. On Friday, Dartmouth defeated Colgate 67-54. behind 16 points from Captain Sea Lonergan '97 and 14 points from Brian Gilpin '97. Sunday, Lonergan and Gilpin led the Big Green again scoring 16 and 20 points, respectively, in Dartmouth's 71-50 win over Lafayette. For complete story, see tomorrow's issue.
Men's Swimming: In their first event of the season, the Dartmouth men lost a pair of dual meets Saturday afternoon at the Naval Academy. The Big Green fell to the Midshipmen 175-67 and then to Brown 137-98. Freshman Dan Concannon won the 200-meter breastroke in 2:24.72, while Toby Hays '99 swept the diving competitions, winning both the one meter and three meter events.
Women's Ice Hockey: The Big Green rebounded from a tough weekend last week to defeat Harvard 8-1 Saturday afternoon in Thompson Arena. Sophomore Sarah Halsell scored a hat trick, racking in goals in the first and third periods. Rookies Jaime Arndt and Christin Szarek each notched their first collegiate goals in the first period.. Junior Michelyne Pinard tallied in two goals, and Malaika Little '97 had a goal. On Sunday, Dartmouth lost disappointingly 4-3 in overtime to Northeastern. Dartmouth took a 3-2 lead on a power play goal by Pinard. But the Huskies rebounded scoring with 2:23 left in overtime.
