Over the Weekend

Men's Tennis: The Big Green won two home matches yesterday afternoon on Topliff Tennis Courts. Dartmouth defeated Boston University 6-1 and the University of Vermont 6-1. For complete story, see tomorrow's issue.

Women's Tennis: The women's tennis team traveled to Brown this weekend to play in the annual invite, which is concentrated on individual play. In the A Division, freshman Rebecca Dirksen won her first two rounds. Dirksen and doubles partner Kallie Buehler '97 advanced to the finals of the A Division doubles with strong performances.

Cross Country: The men's and women's cross country teams escaped the chilly Hanover weather as they traveled to Florida over the weekend to compete in the Disneyworld Invitational. The women placed second in a 12-team field with a score of 67, defeating top powers North Carolina Sate (68) and Wisconsin (70). Maribel Sanchez '96 and Kristin Manwaring '96 led the Big Green, placing fourth and fifth respectively. The Big Green men finished fourth out of nine teams. They were led by sophomores Don Conrad and Bill Tsiaras who placed 12th and 16th respectively.

Women's Golf: The Big Green women linksters returned from the Mount Holyoke Invitational with a second place finish out of a nine team field. Samantha Sommers '99 led the Big Green shooting a 162 over two days. That score placed her second Dartmouth finished with a 684, just one stroke behind first place finishers, Boston College. Sailing: Carrie Gilbert '97 finished fourth in the Women's Single-handed New Englands this weekend, qualifying her for the National Championships in California later this month. Saturday in the Radcliffe Women's Invite, Dartmouth was second out of seven. The Big Green were led by Amanda Ruscitto '97, Alice Nelson '99, Shannon Law '00 and Shannon Laughlin '98.

Equestrian: The Big Green had their first show this weekend, and Dartmouth came in Reserve High Point College with 31 points, just behind Colby-Sawyer College and Tufts University. Ellis Ford '00 placed first in Open Fences. Samantha Caldwell '98 was second in Intermediate Fences and first in Intermediate Flat. In Novice, Cathy Emery '99 placed first in Fences and Alethea Smith '99 placed second in Flat. Meg Hiers '98 finished in first in Advanced Walk-Trot Canter.

Men's Rugby: The Big Green crushed Boston University 79-0 Saturday to remain undefeated at 4-0 in the New England Premier League. Mike Morn '97 led the Green with 19 points. Captian Torbjorn Dimblad '97 also scored three tries.
