Cutter construction continutes

Workmen are building an apartment in Cutter-Shabazz Hall to accommodate the College's Thurgood Marshall fellow, usually a student pursuing a Ph.D.

Construction should be completed in September, Director of Residential Operations Woody Eckles said.

Cutter-Shabazz houses the College's Afro-American Society and is the academic affinity house of the African and African-American Studies program.

Eckles said housing the Marshall fellow in the building is "an attempt to bring a connection between the academic community and the Cutter-Shabazz community."

Dean of Residential Life Mary Turco said the residence will make Cutter-Shabazz better fulfill its role as an academic affinity house.

The Marshall fellow living in the apartment will head the Shabazz Center for Intellectual Inquiry, which will sponsor activities along with the African and African-American Studies program.

The current Marshall fellow, Demetrius Eudell '85, said the resident fellow will plan events according to his or her academic interests. During Spring term, Eudell organized a conference titled "After the 60s."
