Police will make drug arrests

Three members of Bones Gate fraternity will soon be arrested for possession of illegal drugs, said Detective Sergeant Frank Moran of the Hanover Police Department.

A fire alarm over Winter Carnival weekend brought fire department officials and Safety and Security officers to Bones Gate where they then found evidence suggesting the presence of illegal substances while investigating the origins of the alarm.

Moran said he will be "seeking three arrest warrants in the near future," either today or early next week.

He said he will make the arrests after he obtains the warrants.

The evidence confiscated by the police was sent to a forensics lab several weeks ago to be analyzed to determine whether the substances found were illegal.

Moran said the results came back from the lab and the exhibits were found to be "controlled substances."

Two students will be arrested for the possession of marijuana and one student will be arrested for the possession of marijuana and "another narcotic substance," Moran said.

Moran said he has not yet contacted the students who will be arrested, but said he will "be in touch with them before the arrests."

Bones Gate President Jeremy Stackawitz '97 said his fraternity has "had absolutely no interaction with the police in almost six weeks."

Dean of the College Lee Pelton said the College will take action against the students or the house if they have "violated any College rules."

Pelton said there is a College rule that says students must obey all local and state laws.

"I am sure a similar rule extends to College-recognized organizations," he added.

Stackawitz previously told The Dartmouth the investigation was not a house issue. He said while members of the fraternity were under investigation, the house as a whole was not.
