Following last week's huge victory against Harvard and follow-up 3-1 dismantling of Boston College, the men's volleyball team did not let up going into weekend competition, as the Big Green captured two more wins to improve their record to 15-1.
On Saturday the Big Green played two matches against the University of Maine and the University of Vermont easily winning both 3-0.
"Neither match was very intense," co-Captain Jeremy Longinotti '96 said. "One thing that's not a good thing is that we're getting complacent about winning. Basically we've been playing down to our opponents."
This statement is right on the mark. Dartmouth is capable of beating these two teams much more easily than they did.
The Big Green were able to gain experience this weekend for its bench. Several non-starters played strongly for the Big Green as they played and won the third games of both matches.
"We were able to gain depth," Longinotti said.
These wins bring Dartmouth's record to an impressive 15-1 and an undefeated 5-0 league record.
"This puts us in a great position to make playoffs," Longinotti said.
This week Dartmouth plays a mediocre Amherst team at home on Thursday before hitting the road next weekend to play Colby and compete in the Salem State Invitational.
"We're going to try to pound Amherst," said Longinotti of Thursday's non-league match-up. "Not to humiliate them, just to play at our best."
Looking forward to the Salem State Tournament Longinotti said, "It should be a good tourney. Boston College, Northeastern, Boston University -- they'll all be there. These are teams we've beaten but had very competitive matches against."
