The men's swimming team will look to build upon a successful fall start and beneficial winter trip to Florida as it prepares for its first winter contest next weekend against the University of Massachusetts.
The Big Green opened their season last November with their first Ivy win in four years when Dartmouth overcame Brown.
Just before break, the Big Green continued the winning streak with a tight 138-105 win over the University of New Hampshire.
During the first half of the UNH meet, Dartmouth was edged out in close races and fell behind. But the men showed UNH exactly why they had beaten Brown, coming back to win and raise their record to 2-1.
"The team really came together as the meet progressed." Michael Hooper '99. "We fell behind early on, before coming back to dominate the second half of the meet."
The Big Green swimmers hope to build upon a core of experience. They will look to senior Captain Grier Laughlin, juniors Eric Bruner and Jon Kenyon and sophomore Doug Doucet to continue the run began at UNH.
Newcomers Hooper, Geoff Walford '99 and David Moore '99 will also plan to continue their strong performances.
In diving, the leadership will turn to the youth. Toby Hays '99 and Mark Devlin '98 had strong performances at UNH and made improvements during the diving team's winter trip in Florida.
"Our freshman came through and performed very well," Laughlin said. "It was refreshing to see such a full team effort. We're really looking forward to swimming UMass next Saturday and displaying that same determination."
The men will battle UMass at home Jan. 10 at the Karl B. Michael Pool.
