As rush formally ended on Friday, approximately 200 men had committed to accept bids, about the same number as last year.
Despite a similar number of men joining fraternities this year as last year, the number of bids accepted at many houses dropped significantly.
"Numbers were down everywhere," said Thomas Slabaugh '96, Psi Upsilon fraternity's rush chair. Psi U gained 21 new members as opposed to 34 last year.
"Small houses have suffered," said Mason Allen '96, Gamma Delta Chi fraternity's rush chair. Gamma Delt added three new members.
"The sentiment is that people are more cautious before they join," said Brandon Del Pozo '96, Kappa Chi Kappa fraternity's rush chair. He said concerns about drinking and hazing may have led some men not to pledge.
But not all fraternities had small pledge classes. Theta Delta Chi fraternity gained 38 new members and Alpha Chi Alpha fraternity added 28 new brothers.
Finals numbers from Phi Delta Alpha fraternity, Bones Gates fraternity, and Beta Theta Pi fraternity were not yet available.
