Hossfeld leaves Kiewit

Nancy Hossfeld, Computing Services' director of user communications, resigned from her post earlier this month to travel with her husband and to "seek other pursuits outside of the area," Computing Services Director Larry Levine said.

Hossfeld, whose resignation took effect Sept. 1, handled public relations and the day-to-day management of Computing Services.

For Computing Services, Hossfeld also served as the editor of Interface, a quarterly computing magazine, and helped produce the Computing and Information Technologies magazine.

"Nancy will be extremely missed," Levine wrote in an electronic-mail message. "We're very sorry to see her go."

Hossfeld could not be reached for comment.

Levine said the search for Hossfeld's successor is in its early stages. He said he has not yet formed a search committee or placed any advertisements about the position.

Malcolm Brown, director of academic computing, said no one would be appointed to fill the position while a search is being conducted.

"Right now we're putting our fingers in various holes in the dike and hoping we can get another person," he said.

He said he hoped a replacement would be on the job in fewer than six months.

According to Levine, the status of Interface would not be affected by Hossfeld's departure. But Brown said "we may miss an issue with Nancy's position being vacant at the moment."

Hossfeld's colleagues said she would be missed.

"Nancy was a very valued colleague," Brown said. "She brought some very important ideas and perspectives."

"She provided a measure of reality" to an otherwise highly-technical environment, Brown said.
