CFSC elects summer officers

The Coed Fraternity and Sorority Council elected its summer officers last week.

Theta Delta Chi fraternity member James Freeman '97 will serve as CFSC president.

"I am exceedingly pleased to have a hand in the maintenance and possible improvement of the Greek system for the summer," Freeman said.

Freeman said that the CFSCwill work on the issues such as the creation of a new sorority and Greek education programs for fall rush.

"We have been asked by year-long [CFSC] President Matt Raben '96 to begin to orchestrate the Greek and rush education programs for the fall," Freeman said.

"Issues such as the creation of a new sorority are definitely a concern to our class and will certainly be on our agenda, although any sort of final decision will rest on the shoulders of the year-long CFSC," Freeman continued.

Freeman said the CFSC will also plan a Greek week, "similar to the one that occurred last summer."

"But many issues that will likely become prominent this term will probably stem from the presidents of the individual houses who bring their members' concerns to the CFSC," Freeman said.

Bryan Diederich '97, a member of Zeta Psi fraternity, was elected Vice President.

"As VP, my primary job deals with judicial affairs within the CFSC system," Diederich said. "My goal is to do everything possible to ensure that things go smoothly for the summer and that any problems are handled in a fair and expeditious matter."

Diederich said as vice-president, he will oversee investigations into fraternity and sorority houses and make sure CFS regulations are followed.

The CFSC will meet later this week and "talk about an agenda" for the term, according to Diederich.

As programming chair of the CFSC, Stephanie Moser '97, a member of Epsilon Kappa Theta sorority, will help organize summer events.

"My agenda is really to encourage houses to co-sponsor more, and hopefully to get several houses to work together to co-sponsor events," Moser said.

"There was a new programming standard written last term that is being implemented for the first time this term," Moser said. "I will be watching to see what becomes of the new standard and will be doing part of the evaluations at the end of the term."

The new CFS programming standards are awaiting approval by Dean of the College Lee Pelton.

"I think being programming chair will be especially interesting and fun, because I heard from many '97s that they know less people than they had thought, and so with this position I will hopefully be able to help organize events where people can get to know each other," Moser added.

Dawn Delizia '97 of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and Jay Neukom '97 of Psi Upsilon fraternity will be CFSC secretary and treasurer respectively.
