Women's golf takes sixth at Campbell

The women's golf team returned to Hanover with mixed emotions after its tournament this weekend at Campbell University.

Playing against a field of teams from the South, the Big Green showed their lack of practice on the first day of competition.

While most of the teams in the tournament have been practicing since January, the women of Hanover have been unable to get on the course much due to snow and rain and just overall cold weather.

This lack of practice time led to a last place finish on the first day of the tournament. But the women rebounded on the second day of the Campbell Classic to finish sixth.

Leading the way for the team was Sara Vogler '96, shooting an 84 the first day and an 85 the second day to place her 12th individually.

The second leading golfer for the Green was Meredith Johnson '98, who bounced back from a tough first day and shot an 85.

What was most impressive about Johnson's second day total was her back nine score of 38.

Jami Papa '96 was third for the team while Heidi Corderman '96 and Jessica Hughes '97 placed fourth and fifth respectively.

The women's next tournament is the Northeast Championships in two weeks.

The men's team was scheduled to tee-off at the Yale Invitational last weekend, but the event was not held due to poor weather conditions.

The men play next this weekend in the Ivy Championship in Bethpage, N.Y.
