Over the weekend, the women's tennis team crushed Brown University 7-0 but turned around and dropped a tough one to Yale University 2-5. The win and the loss brought the team's season record to 5-4, 3-2 in the Ivy League.
Dartmouth was almost flawless on Friday at Leverone Field House against Brown. The Big Green won two of the three doubles matches, winning the crucial doubles point.
"It was just one of those matches when every single player played good tennis. It's very unusual that it all comes together at once the way it did on Friday," Coach Chris Kerr said.
Dartmouth dominated the singles matches with a clean sweep at every position. No singles match went past two sets.
Yale was only the second outdoor match of the season for Dartmouth, and strong winds hampered the team's efforts for a victory. The women faced a difficult transition from Friday's indoor match, but the experience will benefit the Big Green down the final stretch of their season.
The women played a tough match against Yale, with great singles wins from Debbie Healy '95 and Kallie Buehller '97 in the number two and number five positions, respectively. Both matches went to three sets.
"We didn't play them with the kind of closeness that we could have. It should have been a much better match than it was," Kerr said.
Dartmouth lost the doubles point for the first time this season, breaking a six match streak.
"Yale was a tough match and we knew it was going to be tough going into it," Kiyoe Hashimoto '95 said.
Dartmouth entered this weekend in a four way tie for first place in the Ivy League, with Cornell University, Princeton University, and Harvard University, whom the women will battle on Tuesday.
This will be the last home match and a big rival match for the Big Green. If the Big Green win and defeat Cornell on Saturday, they will clinch second place in the Ivy League.
Dartmouth will attempt to play spoiler on Tuesday and prevent Harvard from sharing the Ivy League title with Princeton.
