Board approves Fahey

In addition to deciding to continue the Reserve Officers' Training Corps, the Board of Trustees approved a graduate program in Comparative Literature and the nomination of a new trustee at its annual April meeting last weekend.

The Board also voted to extend the terms of three members: Page, Stith-Cabranes and Sigler for another five years.

Comparative Literature Chair Lawrence Kritzman said the Board approved the creation of a one-year master of arts program, which is slated to begin in fall 1995.

The graduate program will be small and is expected to have about five students each year, Kritzman said

"We hope to attract a number of students of our own students here at Dartmouth who will stay on for a fifth year," he said. "We expect to have some others from the outside too."

Kritzman said he thinks the program will have "something very special to offer" and that it will be able to beat some of the top comparative literature programs in the nation.

The Board also approved the election of Peter Fahey '68, a former general partner at Goldman, Sachs & Co. Trustee Fahey was elected by alumni by mailed ballots.

The results were announced 11 days ago by the College. There are 16 trustees - including the College president and the governor of New Hampshire - of which alumni elect seven. The other seven are chosen by the Board.

Two weeks ago, Board of Trustees Chairman E. John Rosenwald said Fahey would attend the Trustees' meeting in November and would go on their retreat during the summer.
