Post Office undergoes renovation

The Hanover Post Office recently expanded its facilities in order to accommodate the increasing population of the town and the demand for more post office boxes by College students.

The $13,000 renovations, funded by the U.S. Postal Service, provided the post office with new facilities including a new lobby area and a greater number of boxes.

The structural changes include a new handicapped accessibility ramp, and more post office boxes where the clerk counters used to be located.

In addition to the renovations, changes in the operation of the post office have also been made for the convenience of patrons.

The Hanover post office will now only deal with packages requiring a signature to be delivered, and Lebanon Post Office will handle all mail sorting.

The post office also extended the hours of its lobby, which remains open after the regular business hours and built new parcel lockers that enable customers to collect packages which are too large for the post office boxes.

The counter has been moved for the comfort of customers who will no longer have to stand in a draft from the lobby, Richard Griffin, the acting officer-in-charge said.

"Our renovations are also for atmosphere and the comfort of customers," Griffin said.

The renovations were limited by the demands of residents to preserve the historic elements of the post office.

"The office carefully considered each of the renovations, because the residents are concerned about preserving the historical aspects of the post office," Griffin said.
