Police investigate noise at Theta Delt

Hanover Police investigated a report of shouting and shattering glass outside of Theta Delta Chi fraternity late last night, a police spokesman said.

Officer Steve Read said officers responding just after 11 p.m. found "pledges in front of the house in white t-shirts and shorts" who were "being yelled at by brothers."

Police made no arrests and Read said detectives will conduct a follow-up investigation to make sure the fraternity did not violate a new state anti-hazing law that went into effect July 1.

"As it appears, no one was placed in any danger and it doesn't look like it is going to go any further," Read said. "But that could change, if new facts come to light."

"Our main concern was the t-shirts and shorts," Read said. "We were concerned that they were out in that type of weather."

The temperature at the time of the incident was just under 40 degrees.

Police dispatchers received an anonymous call at 10:49 p.m. from someone who claimed to be calling from Sigma Delta sorority.

Read said he advised the Theta Delt's president of the anti-hazing law.

Read said the investigation would determine if the pledges were "being put into a position of physical harm or unusual ridicule."

Theta Delt officers could not be reached for comment.
