Men's soccer destroys BC

The men's soccer team won its fourth straight game yesterday, beating Boston College at Chase Field, 2-0.

Bepi Raviola '94 opened the scoring 11 minutes into the game with his second goal of the season. Raviola, who hit the crossbar with a shot just one minute earlier, beat Eagle goalie Marc Bala with a 20-yard right-footed shot from the top of the BC penalty area.

Eight minutes later, David Moran '96 completed the day's scoring with his team-leading third goal of the season. Moran found his own rebound after a Bala save and finished into a wide-open net.

Geoff Zawtocki '94 almost added an insurance goal with two minutes remaining, but his left-footed blast ricocheted off the left post. Ian Saward '95 set up Zawtocki with a pass off a free kick, but Bala was able to get a hand on the near-post shot and misdirect it just enough.

But the goal really wasn't needed. A 2-0 lead was more than enough for the Dartmouth defense and goalie Brian Wiese '95.

Wiese made five saves on the day, two of them with five minutes left in the game. After denying Boston College forward Paul Johnston, Wiese raced across the goal and dove to stop Eagle Brian Siracusa's rebound shot, which appeared headed toward the lower right corner of the goal.

Wiese made five saves in recording his fourth shutout of the season. His goals-against-average now stands at 0.41.

Boston College, whose record falls to 7-2-1, entered the game ranked 20th in the country and second in New England. Dartmouth's record improves to 6-2 overall.

The Big Green is still ranked fourth in the region despite having knocked off the top-ranked University of New Hampshire and BC.

Sunday, the Big Green will face Princeton in what coach Bobby Clark called "a big conference game." The Tigers are 3-0 in the Ivy League, while Dartmouth is 1-1.

"We're coming together well, but we're still not where we want to be," Raviola said. "The real challenge comes on Sunday."

The game begins at 2 p.m. Sunday at Chase Field.
