Sailing ends fall season with two strong finishes

Larissa Cespedes / The Dartmouth Staff The Big Green sailing team wrapped up its fall season on a high note, securing a fourth-place finish at the Atlantic Coast Tournament, hosted by Boston University in Boston, Mass., and a fifth-place finish at the Atlantic Coast Championships, hosted by Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., this past weekend. On the Charles River, Sam Williams '12 and Anne Megargel '09 navigated to a sixth-place finish in the Division A races, tallying 24 points. Skipper Ed Jude Glackin '11, alongside crew Sarah Freihofer '10, improved Dartmouth's standings with a fifth-place finish in the Division B races by gaining 22 points. The team recorded 46 points overall, enough to claim fourth place in the field of 16 boats.

SIJUN LIM / The Dartmouth Despite widespread popular linkage of democracy with economic development, such a view is often misguided, Jack Goldstone, a visiting public policy professor from George Mason University, said in a speech on Monday at the Rockefeller Center. A country's economic development depends on the number of opportunities people have to meet their needs in that country's economic market, Goldstone said.
