In case any readers are curious, interviewing Dartmouth students about whether they are a part of a "clique" on campus is difficult. Very difficult.
Being a man at Dartmouth might not seem particularly challenging. In terms of campus issues, people tend to focus more on women, who didn't come to Dartmouth until the 1970s and faced a great deal of adversity because of the College's all-male legacy. In recent years, however, students have begun to turn their attention to creating more organizations for men that foster a positive and healthy sense of masculinity.
Going away to college is one of the best times for a student to assert his or her independence. Finally liberated from the grip of 18 years of parenting, a college student relishes in the opportunity to decide what to do and when to do it every single day. While many young adults lose touch with their parents when they venture off to school, seeing them as a hindrance to their newfound independence, there are some students who remain in close contact with their parents for a range of reasons.

At a school where people throw themselves wholly into extracurricular activities and the average student is fairly active, varsity sports are bound to be a popular activity of choice. Even though we often seem dwarfed by athletic powerhouses such as state schools, Dartmouth nonetheless takes its varsity sports very seriously we are Division I, after all. Nevertheless, for some, the commitment of being an athlete can sometimes prove too much, resulting in the decision to no longer pursue one's chosen sport. The decision is often a difficult one, as many of us tend to define ourselves by the activities to which we dedicate our time.
Dartmouth's location has been one of the most central and defining characteristics of the school since its founding. Despite Dartmouth's status as an Ivy League school that draws from a range of potential students, the College's relatively remote location serves as a self-selecting force for many students.
