The first days of April brought great news for Dartmouth's soccer teams and their fans. The College's plans for a new intercollegiate soccer stadium were boosted by a $4.5 million commitment from Stanley Smoyer, Class of 1934. The new facility -- as per Smoyer's request -- will be named in honor of Alden "Whitey" Burnham, a coach and administrator at the College from 1960 to 1989. Smoyer's sons played standout careers under Burnham in the 1960s.

After 17 games, the best season in recent years for Dartmouth's men's soccer team is finally over. The Big Green managed to win the Ivy League title outright for the first time since 1992, receiving an NCAA tournament bid for the first time since 2000. In the first round of the tournament, however, Dartmouth lost 4-3 on penalty kicks to Boston University on Friday evening in Boston.

After winning the Ivy League title Sunday with a 2-1 defeat of Brown, the Dartmouth men's soccer team still has much to do before the season's close. The Big Green secured their first NCAA bid since 2000; now, they want to prove that they can match the best in the country. In the first round of the NCAA tournament today, Dartmouth (7-3-6, 5-0-2 Ivy League) will face the Boston University Terriers (10-7-2).

After 90 minutes of nervous play and nail-biting action, Dartmouth's men's soccer team clinched sole possession of the Ivy League title with a 2-1 win over Brown at Chase field on Sunday. The victory also secured an automatic NCAA tournament bid for the Big Green, its first since the 2000 campaign.

The past four days have brought mixed emotions to Dartmouth's men's soccer team. The successful squad extended its streak of 10 unbeaten games Saturday after the 2-1 defeat of Columbia. On Tuesday, however, state rival UNH ended the streak with a 1-0 victory over the Big Green.

Off pace. It's the only way to describe Dartmouth's soccer team, which began the season this month and has since failed to achieve a win in its first four games. The first 16 days of the season saw the Big Green players lose one game and tie three at 1-1.

The Dartmouth men's lightweight crew pulled out a decent performance at the 2004 Eastern Springs, held at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. The two freshman lightweight boats placed in the grand finals of their respective heats, accompanied by the third varsity lightweights.

The Dartmouth men's varsity lightweight eight took on a pair of higher-ranked opponents in Yale and Rutgers Saturday in Derby, Conn. In this week's Eastern rankings, Yale held the No. 1 spot, with Rutgers seventh and Dartmouth ninth. Even though they lost to the Bulldogs, the Big Green rowers managed to defeat the Scarlet Knights.

After a six-game unbeaten streak to open the season that earned Dartmouth a top-25 ranking, the Wildcats of the University of New Hampshire handed the Big Green its first defeat of the season on Wednesday night in Durham. Goals by UNH senior Josh Hareld and junior Tyler Jackson were enough to secure a 2-1 win for the Wildcats, even though Mark Limpert '07 had equalized for the Big Green.
