Fitch Ratings Insurance Group, a global rating agency, awarded A+ ratings to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Obligated Group's 2010 revenue bonds, a rating consistent with Fitch's last review of DHOG in August 2009. The rating was based on several factors including the bonds' continued profitability and the stability that comes from DHOG's affiliation with the College, according to a Fitch press release on Friday.

Employers and students have expressed a "cautious sense of optimism" regarding the current job market, and a higher percentage of Dartmouth seniors have reported securing post-College employment than they did at this time last year, according to Monica Wilson, associate director of employer relations at Career Services. To make themselves more marketable as they face stiff competition for jobs and spots in graduate school, many students said they have chosen to focus on developing unique skills in areas ranging from leadership to foreign language.

Following the news that the Hanover Police Department will revise its arrest policy for underage drinkers treated for alcohol overconsumption, most students interviewed by The Dartmouth said the change will allow students to make safer choices about alcohol consumption. Others expressed concern that students may still hesitate to use the Good Samaritan policy due to fear of police involvement.

Former Board of Trustees petition candidate Joe Asch '79 announced on Friday that he plans to devote his "time and energy to things other than Dartmouth College" in a post on the Dartblog website. Asch posted his statement, titled "The Last Post," less than a week after losing the trustee election to Alumni Council-nominated candidate John Replogle '88.

William Weeks, a Dartmouth Medical School professor, pled not guilty on Monday to charges of siphoning almost $1 million in contracts between the Department of Veteran Affairs and the College into his personal account. The trial is taking place at the U.S. District Court in Brattleboro, Vt.

Lynch will ask the Joint Legislative Fiscal Committee to approve a $25 million cut to general fund spending for fiscal year 2010 on Tuesday. Dartmouth has joined with the Upper Valley Fiber Initiative in order to bring a competitively-priced, ultra-high-speed broadband Internet network provided by Google to the Upper Valley. In support of the Initiative's application in the Google Fiber for Communities contest, which was due on March 26, College President Jim Yong Kim sent a four-page letter to Google in which he explained the need for improved Internet service in the Upper Valley and why Dartmouth is "uniquely suited" to implement and take advantage of Google's new network.

In a mailing sent to thousands of alumni earlier this week, College Trustee Stephen Smith '88 endorsed petition trustee candidate Joe Asch '79 and criticized Asch's opponent, Alumni Council-nominated trustee candidate John Replogle '88, urging alumni to vote for Asch in the ongoing election for the Board seat. College President Jim Yong Kim and Replogle both raised concerns about the use of "Dartmouth College Board of Trustees" letterhead on Smith's letter, which Replogle described as potentially misleading to alumni.

The College's potential $100 million in budget cuts will not harm the "fundamental elements of the Dartmouth experience," College President Jim Yong Kim and acting Dean of the College Sylvia Spears told concerned students gathered in Cutter-Shabazz residence hall Monday evening, on the eve of Kim's campus-wide budget address scheduled for Tuesday at noon. As the nation waits to see whether President Barack Obama will follow through on his campaign promise to eliminate the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, Dartmouth remains one of four Ivy League institutions to permit the Reserve Officers' Training Corps to train students on campus. The Army ROTC, which has had a tumultuous history at the College, has survived despite accusations that the program is discriminatory.

U.S. Capitol Police shut down part of the Senate wing of the Capitol Building in Washingon, D.C., Wednesday afternoon after a letter from former Surgeon General and current Dartmouth Medical School professor C. Everett Koop '37 regarding health care reform unexpectedly appeared in the office of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev. The mysterious letter contained no postage and had not been screened by security, according to a Thursday report in The Hill newspaper.

In his inaugural address to the general faculty, College President Jim Yong Kim addressed concerns about the College's economic woes, highlighting the importance of the "active engagement" of the faculty in all aspects of the College as Dartmouth faces a second round of budget cuts. Kim, speaking in Alumni Hall on Monday, said that the College should seek to maintain its interdisciplinary approach to research and teaching while "working across boundaries" to implement positive change that reaches beyond the local community.

The College's request to end a lawsuit filed after the death of Christina Porter '06 was denied by a federal judge last week. Porter passed away on Jan. 16, 2005, less than a year after sustaining severe head injuries while taking a skiing class at the Dartmouth Skiway.
