The D Sports Awards: 2019-20 Rookie of the Year

At the end of each academic year, The Dartmouth sports section nominates athletes to be voted on by the Dartmouth community as the best of the best. In this year’s sports awards, six of the top rookies, six of the top moments, five of the top female athletes and five of the top male athletes will be pitted against each other over the next few weeks, with the winners emerging after a vote by members of the Dartmouth community. 


Club sports adjust to spring and summer challenges, brace for fall season impacts

Varsity athletes aren’t the only ones who lost their spring season. Club sport athletes also missed out on proper ends to their careers and clarity about the future of their teams. Over 2,000 undergraduates — just under half of the undergraduate student body — participate in club athletics, according to associate athletic director for club sports and intramurals Heather Somers.



Senior Spring: Charlie Broom and David Horneffer "a natural fit" at No. 1 doubles

Behind Dartmouth men’s tennis’s return to national prominence over the last few years are two players: Charlie Broom ’20 and David Horneffer ’20. Their accomplishments span both the tennis court and the classroom. With a combined four All-Ivy First Team singles awards, two NCAA tournament appearances in doubles and a career-high doubles national ranking of No. 7, the duo have been the face of the program for the last three years.






Squash teams turn to postseason after weekend wins at Brown

The Dartmouth men’s and women’s squash teams, both ranked No. 9 in the nation, wrapped up their regular seasons this weekend and will be competing in the postseason at the end of the month. The men’s team, after a 7-2 loss at home against Yale University on Friday, stormed back against Brown University to earn a 6-3 win on Sunday. The No. 9 women’s team also lost to Yale on Friday 8-1, but came back two days later to beat Brown, 5-4.


Tennis teams, anchored by seniors, aim for strong 2020 season

Dartmouth men’s and women’s tennis both have their sights set on reclaiming the Ivy League championship after two strong starts. With two wins at home this weekend, the men’s team jumped out to a dominant 6-0 record, which includes a pair of close 4-3 wins over Louisiana State University and the University of Alabama last weekend. The women’s team sits at 2-3 with losses to undefeated Boston College as well as the College of William & Mary and Old Dominion University after starting the season with two wins at the Dartmouth Invite.
