This summer, ESPN's "SportsCenter" was no longer dominated by diving catches and walk-off home runs. Don't get me wrong, I love to see Major League Baseball stars showcase their athleticism by laying out for a fly ball, but watching the same kind of play every day was worse than watching a marathon of Bud Light commercials. The first few times is entertaining, but after three straight hours, enough is enough.

My 10X goal: To single-handedly turn the label "tech geek" into a coveted social status. Let's be real: I want to make your new universal remote more exciting than Free Burrito Day at Bolocco.

Following a disappointing Chapel Hill regional showing in 2009 in which Dartmouth was eliminated after two losses, the Big Green earned its first victory in a NCAA regional in 23 years. The sqaud, however, failed to advance to the next round.

Lately I've felt like ranting not because it's finals period and I have three essays to write in three days, not because I have consumed seven Monster Energy drinks in 48 hours and not because I'm stuck in Novack every night forced to watch countless people stagger through and rave about how much fun they are having. Maybe I've transformed into a hate-fueled adrenaline junkie (seriously, how are these energy drinks even legal? I honestly think my heart is beating faster than it does during mile 12 in a half-marathon), but with the Fall right around the corner, I can't help but start getting annoyed by the NCAA's excessive celebration rule.

Dartmouth hockey captain Sarah Parsons '10 and baseball outfielder Sam Bean '11 were both named to ESPN The Magazine's 2010 Academic All-District Second Team last Thursday. The award is voted on by the sports information directors of the schools in the NCAA's first district. Parsons and Bean were named from a pool of student athletes from Northeastern colleges and universities including Yale University, Boston College, the U.S. Military Academy and Marist University.

Dartmouth successfully developed something that the XFL, Canadian Football League and lingerie football league failed at miserably an extremely entertaining football league that doesn't require gimmicks or expensive promos, namely, sorority flag football. The annual AD wiffle ball tournament was supposed to dominate the sports scene this weekend, but the women stole the show. Outfitted with bandanas, war paint and matching uniforms, members from seven sororities battled for the coveted title. The event was supposed to be non-contact, but I saw some hits that would make Terry Tate proud. To recap the event, I decided to honor select players with awards for their efforts.

This week, I'm back to interviews. I decided to sit down with track star Muhammed Abdul-Shakoor '10 and find out why anyone would want to continually punish himself with brutal running workouts every day. With flowing dreadlocks and a chiseled body, Shakoor is the definition of speed. If you take one glance at the man, you automatically assume he's faster than you. During the conversation, I secretly hoped that some of his speed would rub off on me and that I'd soon be able to run the 100-meter dash in under 10 seconds. It turns out that speed is nontransferable, however, and I would have to settle for a good conversation instead.

Usually, this column is used to interview some of Dartmouth's most interesting athletes, but, after nearly instigating a Dartmouth baseball civil war between the pitchers and fielders, I figured I should change things up a bitthis week. Besides, nearly every Spring sport is done for the season and, like the great Allen Iverson, no one wants to talk about practice. My editors told me I would sound too cocky if I interviewed myself, since I'm on the football team, so I decided to make a playlist for my Spring athletic experience. Each song reflects a different moment of this increasingly interesting term.

Last week, I chatted with a couple of Dartmouth baseball pitchers who made the bold claim that the members of the pitching squad are the best athletes on the field. Apparently, every single positional player on the team disagreed. So this week, I decided to sit down with outfielder Sam Bean '11 and first baseman Jason Brooks '11 to hear their side of the argument.

As the last line of defense for the Dartmouth men's lacrosse team, goalkeeper Fergus Campbell '12 guards the net with a team high .639 save percentage. Campbell pulls on the experience he gathered during his freshmen year to bolster the Big Green and continues to contribute to the team's improved play this season.

"My diving's gotten better this year," Serpico said. "I'm jumping higher and it's made a lot of my dives easier. I still have to keep this consistency for the next two weeks and dive well in the Ivies and the rest of our meets."

Meyer's calling card is her three-point shot. This year, of her attempted 51 field goals, 44 have come from behind the arc. Like talented guard Manu Ginobili of the San Antonio Spurs, Meyer looks to shoot first, but can also penetrate the lane and drive to the basket if the opposing defender overplays the jumper.
