Sports Business at Dartmouth has been increasing in membership and influence since it was officially recognized as a student organization in October of 2010, according to club president and co-founder Bianca Smith '12. The club's formation and growth reflects heightened student interest in sports management careers both at the College and in the Ivy League.

While Dartmouth's Greek system has come under fire for allegations of fraternity hazing and subsequent administrative inaction, the College's peer institutions maintain comparable anti-hazing regulations and procedures for dealing with violations, although a higher percent of eligible Dartmouth students are affiliated with a Greek organization than at similar colleges and universities.

Artist-in-residence Laylah Ali's ink drawings displayed in the Jaffe-Friede Gallery in the Hopkins Center depict power struggles between cartoon-style characters that resemble aboriginal and Native American art. Ali, an art professor at Williams College, has arranged 20 pieces from her "Typology" series, which she completed between 2005 and 2007, for exhibition from Jan. 10 through March 4.

The Aires exited the stage after sharing handshakes and hugs with the winners, looking dressed for the occasion in navy suits. The Aires performed a handful of songs during the live two-hour finale, including a rendition of "Not the Same" by celebrity judge and singer-songwriter Ben Folds, accompanied by Folds himself. Throughout the suspenseful and high-energy program, the Dartmouth crowd erupted into cheers after every Aires performance but groaned each time Lachey said "When we come back" as the show switched to commercial break.

Since 2005, eight of the 21 Dartmouth alumni who interned at the American University in Kuwait through the Dartmouth College-American University of Kuwait Project have received national fellowships and post-graduate scholarships to study Arab culture, media and linguistics in North Africa and the Middle East, according to Laurel Stavis, the project's executive director. Five program alumni received Fulbright Scholarships, Stavis said.

In the first five months since the creation of the Learning Collaborative on High-Risk Drinking an initiative launched in May 2011 as part of the National College Health Improvement Project Dartmouth has begun targeted efforts to reduce alcohol abuse on campus by promoting individual intervention and improving data collection about student drinking, Aurora Matzkin '97, who leads the College's 12-person campus improvement team in coordination with NCHIP, said in an interview with The Dartmouth.

The Assembly resolution provides support for a faculty resolution from May 10, which demanded that the administration provide faculty members with a detailed explanation of the College's expenses and cuts. Of the approximately 25 students present at the Assembly meeting, all voted in favor of the resolution with the exception of two members.

President Barack Obama announced his intent to nominate former New Hampshire state representative Paul Hodes '72 to the National Council on the Arts, according to press release issued by the White House on Friday. The nomination is pending Senate approval, but the date of the confirmation hearing has not yet been set.

Prior to the Oct. 11 Republican presidential primary debate, 16 Dartmouth students selected by Rockefeller Center Associate Director Ronald Shaiko will convene in the Class of 1930 Room from 2 to 4 p.m. to discuss the traits necessary for an ideal presidential candidate, Shaiko said in an interview with The Dartmouth.
