A research team led by Kathryn Zug '84, a dermatologist at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, discovered that children and adults are equally likely to have allergic contact dermatitis, but react to different allergens. The study will be a useful guide for dermatologists testing for allergies in eczema patients, Zug, also a Dartmouth Medical School professor, said.

Working as a paramedic in Minnesota, Native American doctor Arne Vainio once rushed a diabetic Native American woman to the emergency room for immediate medical assistance. According to Vainio, the ER physician looked the patient over and dismissed her as "just a goddamned drunk Indian." Experiences like this inspired Vainio to become a doctor and fight racism and discrimination, he said at a speech to about 20 attendees in Moore Hall Tuesday.

Chittick is the founder and executive director of TeenAIDS-PeerCorps, a nonprofit organization that uses grassroots techniques to educate youth around the world about the dangers of AIDS. Chittick described his strategy at three separate presentations at the Rockefeller Center, Phi Delta Alpha fraternity and Delta Delta Delta sorority Tuesday night.

Dean of Residential Life Martin Redman solicited feedback on the new Alcohol Management Program proposal at the weekly general meeting of the Student Assembly Tuesday night. If adopted AMP will replace the Social Event Management Procedures, the College's current alcohol policy. The proposal was released last Tuesday by Dean of the College Tom Crady.

Senator Hillary Clinton, former 2008 Democratic presidential candidate, returned to New Hampshire on Tuesday to rally last-minute support for the Democratic ticket. At a rally in Manchester, Clinton called on New Hampshire voters, who gave her a primary victory in January, to continue to work hard to elect presidential nominee Senator Barack Obama and former N.H. Governor Jeanne Shaheen, candidate for U.S. Senate. Shaheen introduced Clinton at the event, held at Southern New Hampshire University.

Over the past few weeks, my fellow residents and I have been billed for damages amounting to almost $2,000. These damages include wrecked ceiling tiles, feces and vomit on the bathroom floor, and messes in the kitchen. Our stoic custodian has seen worse times, though. Two years ago, someone deliberately removed all the signs along the hallways and smashed an entire corridor of ceiling tiles. Thousands of dollars worth of damages were assumed by the floor's residents.

I am glad that fellow Opinion columnist Tom Mandel '11 was able to "find a home" in a Dartmouth fraternity ("Frat Welcome Mat," Oct. 23), particularly because it is the house in which I live. But I also believe that Mandel's attempt at shaping his take on the Greek phenomenon, though more eloquent and thoughtful than most accounts found on these pages, appears to be another Dartmouth-inspired over-intellectualization of the simple stuff in life.

On Sunday, the Dartmouth equestrian team continued its winning streak, riding to a first-place tie at the Mount Ida College home show in Newton, Mass. The team finished the event even with host Mount Ida, the defending regional champion.
