Just 13 points separated the Dartmouth women’s track and field team from the Ivy League title at the outdoor Ivy League Heptagonal Championships at Yale University this weekend. The meet was not decided until the women’s 4x400-meter relay, the final track event of the day, finished. The men’s team improved on its sixth-place finish at the indoor championships, finishing in fifth place.

NEW YORK — Despite scoring first in both games, the baseball team ended its season in New York this weekend exactly as it did last year, falling to Columbia University in the best of three Ivy Championship Series. The Lions (27-17, 15-5 Ivy) took the Big Green (18-21, 11-9 Ivy) 6-2 in game one and 4-1 in game two of a Saturday doubleheader. The loss on enemy turf represents the fourth in a row for the team, leaving the four seniors — Louis Concato ’14, co-captain Jeff Keller ’14, co-captain Dustin Selzer ’14 and Ryan Toimil ’14 — without the gratification of a League title in their careers.

Thanks to a popular vote with over 500 ballots cast, Nejc Zupan ’14 was voted Dartmouth’s best male athlete of 2013-14, taking 32 percent of the vote.

In one of its tightest races this year, the men’s heavyweight crew team took home three races and the Packard Cup from No. 18 Syracuse University at home on Friday. The first, third and fourth varsity eight boats captured close victories, while the second boat lost by less than half of a second to the Orange.

Hanover, it looks like you finally got it right. It’s spring outside after what feels like the longest tease since the Sox won a title and the Curse of the Bambino was finally lifted from Fenway (hey Freddie). Spring weather means one thing and one thing only: intramural softball. Though we obviously discussed squaring off against the softball team, we realized that they were probably up against other (obviously not more important) opponents after winning that whole Ivy League Championship thing for the first time in Dartmouth history. That, and we wanted nothing to do with Morgan McCalmon ’16 and her heater.

This week, I sat down with Edward Wagner ’16, a star hurdler and sprinter on the men’s track and field team. At Yale University for the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships, Wagner made time to talk about his favorite events, ideal track conditions and the added pressure he felt this year as a returning medalist from last year’s Heps.

With rain coming down in the bottom of the fifth in game three of the Ivy League Championship Series, Kara Curosh ’14 blasted a two-run, line-drive home run over the left-center field wall. Rounding the bases, she ran straight into the arms of her teammates at home plate, putting Dartmouth back in the game against the University of Pennsylvania. The Big Green (31-17, 18-2 Ivy) would go on to defeat the Quakers (19-22-1, 13-6-1 Ivy) 7-3 in the game and 2-1 in the series to claim the program’s first ever Ivy League Championship.

In the rain and against the odds, the Dartmouth baseball team brought home its seventh straight Red Rolfe Division title by crushing the Yale University Bulldogs 11-4 in a one-game playoff Sunday afternoon at Biondi Park. The team, rising from the hole it dug itself by opening the season with a 5-9 Ivy League record, ended on an eight-game winning streak, which it will take to Columbia University (25-17, 15-5 Ivy) next weekend for the Ivy League Championship Series.

The football team closed its 12 spring practices with the Green-White scrimmage on Saturday at Memorial Field. An opportunity to evaluate the team’s readiness for the upcoming fall season, the low-scoring game displayed the strength of the team’s defense.

This week the Legends were ready to take on the men’s lacrosse team, a competition that I had been trash talking the entire year. Lacrosse is the only sport I ever played competitively, and I looked forward to matching up against the Big Green’s best. I was also looking forward to seeing Austin get out on the lacrosse field and seeing what he would do with a six foot pole in his hands.

I sat down with Kelsey Miller ’16, the starting third baseman for the softball team, to chat before the team’s big weekend. Miller helped keep the team’s hopes alive with a walk-off home run against Harvard University on April 27 in game two of the home doubleheader. In this weekend’s Ivy League Championship Series she scored two runs in the Big Green’s 2-1 series win over the University of Pennsylvania.

As the softball team prepares for its final game against Harvard University this afternoon, some are lamenting the conference’s structure. Though Dartmouth and Harvard are the best two Ivy League teams this season, only one will move on to the Ivy championship.

With a line drive shot from Matt Parisi ’15, the baseball team tallied a dramatic walk-off win against Harvard University to complete the sweep of the doubleheader in Hanover. The Big Green set up a critical match up in Cambridge on Tuesday, looking to keep its hopes alive for a seventh straight Red Rolfe Division title.

A two-game split in Hanover means that tomorrow’s softball doubleheader will decide the Ivy League North Division crown. After falling in eight innings to Harvard University, the team came back to walk off against the Crimson (28-13, 14-1 Ivy) in game two. The Big Green (27-16, 16-2 Ivy) now controls its destiny for the division title.

The men’s and women’s tennis teams wrapped up their seasons this weekend with matches against Harvard University. The No. 42 men fell 4-1 on the road against the No. 33 Crimson and finished a historic season with its most League wins since 1997. The women won at home in a dramatic 4-3 win against No. 53 Harvard to cap the season.

Senior women’s lacrosse players led their team to a thrilling 9-8 win against Harvard University (9-6, 4-3 Ivy) in their final game for the Big Green (6-8, 3-4 Ivy). While the Harvard senior players were honored before the game in their home stadium, it was Dartmouth’s seniors who clinched the match.

Sports fans, this was truly a giant week in Legends history. After realizing that a comeback and sweet redemption has been mathematically impossible since the sixth week of winter term, we have truly embraced the senior spring philosophy and gone for the long ball — things we would not usually have any CHANCE of success in, but we have always wanted to try. Spoiler alert: we really have had no success in many of these things, but they have been a blast.
