On the heels of two consecutive conference victories last weekend, the 47th-ranked men’s tennis team was looking to extend its win streak this past weekend as the Ivy League season winds down. After victories against unranked Brown University (15-7, 1-5 Ivy) by a score of 4-3 and against Yale University (11-11, 1-5 Ivy) at 5-2, the Big Green (13-10, 4-2) now enters its final home match on a four-win surge and a chance to end the season in second place in the Ivy League.

Men’s lacrosse took the field against No. 14 Princeton University in front of an enthusiastic crowd Saturday afternoon. The Big Green fought hard, but ultimately fell to Princeton’s powerful offense by a score of 16-5, bringing their overall record to 3-6 and their Ivy record to 1-3.

Needing to rebound after two disappointing home losses to open the Ivy League season, the No. 54 men’s tennis team entered this weekend on a four-game losing streak. It left with two consecutive 5-2 wins, taking down No. 30 Princeton University on Saturday and the University of Pennsylvania on Sunday.

After a narrow loss to No. 56 Princeton University 4-3 on Saturday, the No. 37 women’s tennis team edged out the University of Pennsylvania 4-3 on Sunday on the back of a match-clinching three-set victory by Taylor Ng ’17 at No. 1 singles.The match against the Princeton team (11-7, 5-0 Ivy), which sits atop the Ivy League, proved close from the very beginning, as the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams fought tooth and nail in their matches.

Nearly 37 years after the Dartmouth Women’s Rugby Club was originally founded, the College will now promote the program to varsity status beginning with the next academic year, athletic director Harry Sheehy announced last week. The decision to elevate women’s rugby will raise the total number of varsity sports at the College to 35, with 17 teams for women, 16 for men and two coed teams.

This week, I talked with men’s Nordic skier Patrick Caldwell ’17. Caldwell had a historic winter season which he capped with a national title in the men’s 10K Freestyle race at the NCAA skiing championships, helping the Dartmouth ski team place sixth at the event, an improvement over last year’s finish.

The men’s lacrosse team dropped its match Saturday at Yale University’s Reese Stadium, falling to the No. 11 Bulldogs 10-4. The loss brings the Big Green’s total record to 3-5, with the team 1-2 in the Ivy League after an overtime win against Harvard University on March 21 and an 8-2 loss last weekend against Cornell University. Between the two Ivy games, the Big Green secured a 16-15 win over the University of Vermont on March 24. .

The men’s basketball team played its first postseason game in 56 years on March 18 in Buffalo, New York. The Big Green (14-15, 7-7 Ivy) fell to Canisius College (17-14) by a score of 87-72 in the first round of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament.

The Dartmouth Men’s Ice Hockey team doesn’t have any first, second or even seventh round draft picks. Yet it has stacked its schedule with four of seven National College Athletics Association ranked teams this interim — some having an upwards of six players who went in the draft — including the no. 1 Boston University Terriers. In a Nov. 30 upset, Dartmouth shut out the Terriers 2-0, giving the Big Green a victory against the top-ranked team and goalie James Kruger ’16 the second shutout of his career.

Men’s basketball power forward Connor Boehm drained a buzzer-beating three-pointer to lead the Big Green to victory against Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne on Nov. 28, earning Boehm a SportsCenter Top 10 play. Dartmouth, after putting up just one goal in a 4-1 loss to Yale University in the first of two this weekend, came onto the ice with something to prove Saturday. The team, trying to shake last season’s reputation that it was either hot or not, took the 22-hour break to compose itself, find the chemistry it lacked the night before, and smack the visiting Brown University Bears with a 6-0 shutout, the first career shutout for James Kruger ’16.

As the horn sounded on the final regular season game, the men’s soccer team was greeted on one side by fellow players on the bench, and on the other by zealous fans charging onto the pitch. For the first time in three years, the Big Green captured a share of the Ivy League title Saturday night by defeating the Brown University Bears 3-0, and by virtue of a tiebreaker atop the standings, a berth in the NCAA tournament as well.
