Both teams started the game shooting cold from the field, but Brown raced out to a 12-5 lead by the sixth minute. In the next three minutes, Dartmouth battled back to within two points with a great inside move by Sasha Dosenko '12 and a three-pointer by captain Faziah Steen '13.
The Dartmouth men's squash team battled Trinity College in Hartford, Conn. over the weekend but was unable to capture any wins against the No. 1 team in the country, losing 9-0. The Dartmouth men's basketball team fought valiantly against two tough Ivy League opponents this weekend but ultimately fell to both Brown University, 66-59, and Yale University, 62-52. The Big Green (4-16, 0-4 Ivy) came out strong on Friday night against the Bears (7-14, 1-3 Ivy), but standout performances from both Jvonte Brooks '15 and Tyler Melville '14 were not enough to secure the win. Brown staged a late rally, keyed by the play of sophomore guard Sean McGonagill, who added 11 points in the final four minutes of the game.
While a spell of balmy weather this weekend melted much of New Hampshire's snow, forcing the cancellation of Friday's giant slalom event and making waxing skis a challenge, Dartmouth skiers remained unfazed at the University of New Hampshire Carnival. Still, the University of Vermont's prowess in the slalom allowed them to leapfrog the Big Green in the overall standings to win the carnival with 1,021 points to Dartmouth's 873. UNH finished third with 710 points.
The Dartmouth women's hockey team resumed its hot streak this weekend with a 3-1 win over Brown University in Providence, R.I. and a 6-0 win over Yale University in New Haven, Conn. The wins moved the Big Green to 14-6-2 overall, 10-4-2 in the ECAC and 4-2-0 in the Ivy League. The team has won six of its last seven games and has only one loss this calendar year, propelling them back into the national top 10.
Setting four new pool records at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center in White River Junction, Vt. this weekend, the Big Green swimming and diving teams captured first place at the Dartmouth Invitational after a grueling two days of races. Swimming against the University of Massachusetts and Bryant University, the Dartmouth men won a close dual meet against UMass, 178-175, and easily handled Bryant by a score of 286-58. The women dominated UMass 246-91 and Bryant 268-45.
Dartmouth's men's and women's track teams traveled to Boston University this weekend to participate in the Terrier Classic, and the Big Green had several outstanding performances on the weekend. Held on the banked BU track, the meet attracts some of the top talent in the Northeast.
Brown, frustrated and facing a 4-2 deficit at the beginning of the third period, played with a desperate physicality. Eighteen of the game's 25 penalties were handed out in the third period, including 11 after a major scuffle at the end of the stanza that left Big Green captain Mike Keenan '13 fighting to protect himself without a helmet.
There are eight seconds left. Your team calls a timeout to set up the game-winning play, except you really have no idea who should shoot the ball. Regardless, you tell your teammate with the hot hand that it's up to him. You run out to the court, inbound the ball, and your teammate airballs the shot. Game over. Thanks for playing.
This week I got to sit down with men's tennis player Michael Jacobs '13 to discuss life, tennis and the team's upcoming season.
The No. 10 Dartmouth women's hockey team welcomed Colgate University and No. 3 Cornell University to Thompson Arena this weekend for two dramatic games that both went into overtime. The Big Green came out of the weekend with a split, defeating Colgate 4-3 on Friday and losing to Cornell 1-0 on Saturday.
In a defensive battle for the majority of the game, the No. 24 Crimson (16-2, 2-0 Ivy) missed its first nine shots, six of them layups, which allowed the Big Green (4-14, 0-2 Ivy) to pull out to an early 6-0 lead.

Co-captain Brian O'Toole '12 said the team was surprised that the match was so close.
D'Agostino said she was thrilled to have achieved the milestone so early in the season.
Vince Marriott : As a native of Philadelphia, it's safe to say that basketball is rarely on my list of must-watch sporting events. Over the past decade, the 76ers have proved to be very good at being very average. They usually snuck into the playoffs, but it only ever provided the chance to get crushed by a far superior team. I didn't even care about what happened to the NBA during the lockout because I figured the Sixers would only provide more disappointment. This season, however, it's my very own Philadelphia 76ers who've been doing the crushing. At 11-5, the Sixers are in first place in the Atlantic Division and, while there's still a lot of season left, seem poised to make a deep run in the playoffs. That's why I'll be watching as the Sixers look to notch another win over the abysmal New Jersey Nets on Wednesday at 7 p.m on the YES Network.
Against the Raiders (12-9-3, 6-5-1 ECAC), Doug Jones '12 notched the game-winning goal after 2:43 minutes of overtime. Assisted by Connor Goggin '12 and Eric Robinson '14, Jones snatched the victory for Dartmouth (8-8-2, 5-5-1 ECAC).
"Obviously, we'd like to win more than the five games we won [last] year and show progress in the win-loss column," Cormier said. "People on the outside have picked us, with good reason, to be worst team in the league. We're going to prove them wrong."
