The Big Green (13-7-4, 8-6-3 ECAC) had already defeated the Bears (4-17-1, 3-14-0 ECAC) once this season by 1-0 in Providence, R.I. In both meetings, shots and goals were tough to come by with Brown's tightly packed defense.

After losing its season opener to Boston College on Jan. 19, the Big Green women's team (3-1, 0-0 Ivy) turned its season around, beginning with a win over University of Wisconsin 6-1 on Friday at the Boss Tennis Center. Dartmouth came out strong in doubles action as Katherine Yau '16 and Akiko Okuda '15 won 8-5 in No. 1 doubles and Melissa Matsuoka '14 and Sarah Bessen '16 won 8-1 in No. 2 doubles.

Despite the snow on the ground, the Dartmouth men's and women's tennis teams have both kicked off their spring seasons with January matches. The men's (0-2) and women's (1-1) teams have both competed in two contests so far.

The Big Green women finished the Invitational with 1007 points, well ahead of second place Boston University who earned 729 points. The Dartmouth men also won by a large margin, finishing the two-day event with 1109 points, ahead of second place Boston University who earned 716 points.

The Year of the Arts, the Black Family Visual Arts Center, Sarner Underground: they're all new developments on campus. That's a fact. These new campus spots all illustrate Dartmouth's recent efforts to celebrate the arts on campus, whether in theater, film, studio art or music. That's an inference. The question, however, is whether these new spaces have had an impact on student life by further integrating the arts on campus and increasing student participation.

Even the best hockey teams can always use a solid last line of defense and the No. 12 Dartmouth men's hockey team is no exception, with two superb goalies on the roster this season who are dazzling fans with their saves. Cab Morris '14 and rookie Charles Grant '16 have turned away nearly 400 shots together this season, helping to propel the squad to an 8-5-2 (4-3-1 ECAC) record.

Hanlon will succeed World Bank President Jim Yong Kim in the College's Wheelock Succession. Former College Provost Carol Folt has served as interim president since Kim's departure and will return to the provost position upon Hanlon's assumption of the presidency. The College's Board of Trustees elected Hanlon unanimously on Tuesday, culminating the search for Kim's successor led by Chair of the Presidential Search Committee Bill Helman '80, Board of Trustees Chairman Stephen Mandel '78 said.

The Dartmouth men's and women's cross country teams closed out their seasons on Friday at the NCAA Northeast Regional at Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison, Conn., where the men took fourth and the women finished 10th. Even though she missed the last two races due to injury, Abbey D'Agostino '14 showed no signs of rust, repeating as individual champion and advancing to Saturday's NCAA Championships in Louisville, Ky.

Most of you had no idea, although some of you got pretty close when you called it "a journal reflecting upon things" and "a newspaper". You're right, we should be a newspaper in ourselves because we're that awesome, and good for you for realizing that calling it "The Mirror" hints on some sort of reflection it may or may not have taken us three terms to figure that one out. But also, why are you answering this survey if you don't even know where your information is going? Whatever, we're happy that this campus is so trusting. Or maybe you saw the survey and were just dying to know the answers to these mysterious questions. Either way, we're happy you could bear with us.

The Dartmouth men's and women's squash teams will take the court for the first time this year at the annual Ivy Scrimmages at Yale University in New Haven, Conn., on Saturday and Sunday. The men finished the 20112012 season ranked seventh in the nation, while the women finished last year ranked eighth.

In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Sexual Assault Peer Advisors and WISE at Dartmouth placed silhouette cutouts of domestic violence victims in prominent locations across campus on Monday. The silhouettes display facts about domestic and relationship violence and include both the SAPA and WISE hotlines to provide aid to students seeking help or more information, according to volunteer coordinator for local service at the Tucker Foundation, Stacia Burd.

On the field, the trio has led by example. Green is second on the team with 24 tackles and had a key fumble recovery in the Big Green's season opener against Butler University. Since he is the youngest captain, Green said he feels a responsibility to connect with his underclassman teammates, especially since the team is currently going through a "youth movement" with many young players.

Due to the National Hockey League's lockout that is threatening to cancel the 2012-2013 season, several former Big Green players are out of a job and out of pay, forced to seek training and playing time elsewhere.

The term has hardly been in session for three weeks, but McNutt is already busy recruiting '17s and '18s, filling spots on athletic teams and giving tours to prospective students. Like most colleges, Dartmouth has an affirmative action program that plays a role in the Admissions Office. According to its formal mission statement, "diversity at all levels is critical to Dartmouth's mission." The accepted purpose of affirmative action is to remedy past discriminations. Less accepted, however, is who pays the price. With a 10 percent acceptance rate, admitting one student means rejecting nine others.

As athletes return to campus for their preseason camps, Dartmouth's athletic programs will welcome two new assistant coaches Andrea Bentley and Brittany Cameron to its staff. Bentley and Cameron will coach the women's volleyball and soccer teams, respectively.

The Dartmouth men's club rugby team has emerged as one of the nation's premier programs, with back-to-back titles in the 7s Collegiate Rugby Championships for the past two years and wins over some of the nation's best known teams along the way. Many of the leading athletes from this year's championship team graduated in June, opening the door for the Class of 2014 to step up this summer and take it upon themselves to maintain the program's momentum as a top national contender.

Reed, who sang in the Dartmouth Cords a capella group and won Dartmouth Idol this year, couldn't resist sitting down at the incongruous, randomly placed instrument and playing one last song. He belted out one of Adele's hits while he played. People passing on the sidewalk paused to listen before continuing on their way.
