On Oct. 13, the Dartmouth Student Government Senate met for its fourth weekly meeting of the fall term. Led by student body president Chukwuka Odigbo ’25, the Senate discussed transportation to voting sites on Election Day, new library hours and the upcoming student issues survey.
For many Dartmouth freshmen, the first taste of college comes in the form of First-Year Trips. Trips showcase the best of Dartmouth’s community and deeply-rooted traditions, which come to life while stuck in the woods with a group of relative strangers. It’s easy to fall into the trap of “Camp Dartmouth” and forget the difficulty of the journey ahead.
On July 7, my friend Won Jang ’26 was reported missing and later pronounced dead. He was last seen the previous night around 9:30 p.m. by the Connecticut River. His death was ultimately ruled an accidental drowning. Most days, I cannot help but wonder what might have happened if Won had been six feet tall and white. I cannot help but think that people would have reported him missing that night and stayed behind until he was found. Maybe he’d still be here today.
Nicole Chambers, the former office manager of The Dartmouth, was sentenced today to 15 months in prison and three years of supervised release — the maximum sentence under her plea agreement — for embezzling more than $223,000 from the student newspaper between April 2017 and September 2021. Chief Judge Landya McCafferty delivered the sentence in federal court in Concord, N.H.

Won Jang ’26, an undergraduate student from Middletown, Del., was found dead on July 7 “after a search involving state and local emergency responders,” Dean of the College Scott Brown wrote in an email to campus. Jang — who was reported missing on July 7 — was found in the Connecticut River this evening, Brown wrote.
This summer, students can rent canoes, kayaks and paddleboards for free at Ledyard Canoe Club, according to Outdoor Engagement Committee member and economics professor Bruce Sacerdote ’90.
