Two second-half goals from Columbia were enough to break the No. 15 Dartmouth men's soccer team's undefeated Ivy League run on Sunday. The loss marks Dartmouth's second in a row after a 1-0 defeat on Wednesday against the No. 8 University of South Florida in Tampa, Fla.

Dartmouth's (8-6-0. 3-2-0 Ivy) first chance came when Aly O'Dea '12 nearly ran down a loose ball in front of the Columbia (6-6-3, 2-2-1 Ivy) net, but Lions netminder Lillian Klein fell on it before any damage could be done.

New Hampshire Attorney General Kelly Ayotte announced her candidacy for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by retiring Sen. Judd Gregg, R-N.H., on Saturday. Ayotte will vie for the Republican nomination. Rep. Paul Hodes '72, D-N.H., announced his candidacy for the seat earlier this year. In her announcement, Ayotte pointed to her record, saying New Hampshire was rated as the safest state in the country during her 11-year tenure working in the attorney general's office, and added that she will be tough on wasteful spending as senator, according to the Union Leader. Former Gov. Stephen Merrill, R-N.H., endorsed Ayotte at the announcement event.

Dartmouth faculty may receive grants for ground-breaking research, but they are not being funded to crack codes for the CIA or work on any other top-secret or highly sensitive project. Official College policy prohibits professors from accepting grants with restrictions on publication, according to physics professor and vice provost for research Martin Wybourne.

While Dartmouth Medical School provides for doctors to volunteer abroad through its collaboration with the College's Global Health Initiative and other programs, many DMS and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical School physicians also choose to help those in need independently. From performing reconstructive surgeries on children with cleft lips to donating medical equipment to developing countries, many Dartmouth physicians are volunteering their skills abroad to provide critical health care for people who would otherwise not receive it.

The American Medical Association underestimates the number of young physicians in the workforce and overestimates the number of elderly physicians, many of whom have retired, according to a study by Dartmouth economics professor Douglas Staiger. The study predicts that the future physician workforce will likely younger, but also smaller, than previously expected.

The series lives up to the definition of music used by Douglas Perkins, director of the music lab, as "sound with intention almost anything, as long as you put it together in your head in a musical way."

Nick Schwieger '12 broke a single-game rushing record and led Dartmouth to its first victory in nearly two years today. The Big Green snapped its 17-game losing streak in convincing fashion with a 28-6 win over Columbia at Memorial Field in a Homecoming matchup.
