Walk down the stairs and into Han Fusion — Hanover’s Chinese, Japanese and Thai fusion restaurant — on a Friday or Saturday night, and you might mistake the eatery for one of the College’s dining halls based on the horde of Dartmouth student patrons. The restaurant, fondly referred to as just “Han,” serves as a go-to establishment for students to gather, get drinks and share a meal.

Twenty-five percent of Dartmouth students are varsity athletes, and 75% of all students participate in athletics, including club and intramural teams, according to Dartmouth Admissions. While most students who are not on a varsity team might hit the gym or try their hand at an intramural sport, some push their limits and look beyond conventional means to stay fit.

When I first received my acceptance to Dartmouth in 2022, my brothers insisted that I watch “Animal House,” the 1978 classic film which is notoriously based on the College. After I finally watched the movie, I felt slightly apprehensive about my college choice. Was this grotesque depiction of debauchery — food fights, stealing test answers and threats of expulsion — an accurate reflection of Dartmouth’s campus culture?

Duke Ellington. The Clash. Bruce Springsteen. They’re all internationally famous musicians, but they have something else in common — each one has performed at Dartmouth. Although many students may not know it today, Dartmouth was a pioneer of collegiate skiing: Dartmouth founded the first college ski team through the DOC in 1909, hosted the first downhill and slalom races in the United States and has sent 155 athletes to the Winter Olympics. According to “Passion for Snow”, a 2013 documentary that highlights the College’s importance in the development of modern skiing, “more members of the United States Ski Hall of Fame have been associated with Dartmouth and Hanover than any other institution or location.”

The concept of an “ideal study space” often varies from student to student. Some prefer a quiet, wood-paneled space, like Sanborn Library or the Tower Room, while others enjoy the bustle of Novack or the sleek, open windows of the Irving Institute. But for some, One Wheelock, a home-y lounge tucked away in the basement of Collis Center, fulfills its own niche. The multifunctional space is both a quiet study spot and a place to hang out with friends, while hosting a variety of campus events, including Monday Microbrews and Thursday Trivia.

Despite limited clothing store options within walking distance of campus, Dartmouth students can be considered to be quite fashionable. On any given day, students can be seen adorning the hottest trends, dipping into the styles of 30 years ago or perhaps sporting a thrifted sweatshirt after a trip to Listen Thrift Store. Take a stroll across the Green on a Monday, however, and you may notice an unusual abundance of something else: vests.
