Evenings cool and days shorten, finals and formals approach and everybody acts personally betrayed by the arrival of August. Summer is ending. Worse, sophomore summer is ending. It's disorienting to have something that you've been looking forward to for so long become a memory, but in the 37 seconds that was July, that is apparently what happened.

In an effort to discourage students from attempting one of the most controversial Dartmouth traditions, rushing the field during halftime, this year freshmen have an alternative. Called "the Gauntlet," referring to the shape the students take, the ritual invites students from the freshman class to gather around Leverone Field House towards the end of halftime and greet the team as they return to the field.

As Americans shuddered at fast rising gas prices this summer, 15 Dartmouth students traveled 10,000 miles across the nation and back promoting environmentally friendly transportation in the Big Green Bus, a 37-foot vehicle fueled almost entirely by vegetable oil.

Scores of students took advantage of a rare sunny day on Saturday to participate in Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority's third annual Breast Cancer Walk/Run. The fundraiser revolved around a 5,000-meter race that started at the Collis Student Center and passed through passed by Occom Pond and through Pine Park.

The Dartmouth College Committee of Chairs met Monday to discuss a report from the Committee on Organization and Policy that seeks to change the role of the Dean of the Faculty. A proposal before the Committee of Chairs, based on the COP's report, aims to make the dean of the faculty chair of the Committee. Currently, the President of the College acts as chair of the committee.

ABC's new hospital drama "Grey's Anatomy" follows the life of fictional Dartmouth graduate Meredith Grey, an intern at a competitive Seattle hospital. Perhaps not surprisingly, the show's creator and executive producer, Shonda Rhimes, graduated from the College in 1991.
