Dr. Nancy Kellogg '78, an internationally recognized expert on childhood sexual abuse who is severely hearing impaired, attributes much of her professional success to her experience working directly with children. Kellogg says that her hearing deficit actually helps her connect with young patients by bringing her to their level.

Over 50 students flocked to the Dartmouth Organic Farm on Friday to try their hand at cider pressing, pumpkin decoration and even worm composting as part of the farm's fall event, Pumpkin Pie In the Sky.

The Dartmouth power plant opened its doors to groups of students by offering a series of free group tours of the plants facilities on Wednesday. The tours provided students with the opportunity to ask questions about how Dartmouth's power and heat are generated and to discover the ways the plant impacts the local environment. Originally constructed in 1896, the building has undergone extensive renovation since then. Of the boilers housed in the plant, the oldest dates back to 1958 while the newest was added in 1996, the same year that a new control system was installed. The plant is also responsible for providing roughly 45 percent of the electricity to the campus as a byproduct of its steam creation. During the summer, the steam is also used to run air conditioning in some of the College's buildings.

Two males in a silver Audi with New Hampshire plates were allegedly driving around campus trying to sell Elite Audio speakers to Dartmouth students on Tuesday. The unidentified men reportedly claimed that the speakers were worth $3,200 but that they were just trying to get rid of them.

Mike Rabil '06, a fifth-year senior and co-captain of the Dartmouth football team, and Craig Schlapprizzi '06, who were among a group of three men arrested and charged with misdemeanor battery after a summer incident in Chicago, are scheduled to appear at a court hearing this week.

The U.S. Education Department recently disclosed that it has supplied the Federal Bureau of Investigation with sensitive financial information on hundreds of student-aid applicants over the last five years. The program came into light following an investigation by a Medill School of Journalism reporter working with the Associated Press.

Two Dartmouth alumni and one former professor were among the 25 individuals awarded the 2006 MacArthur Fellowships on Tuesday. John Rich '80, Anna Schuleit MALS '05 and professor Jennifer Richeson all received a surprise phone call last week notifying them of their selection.

The Interfraternity Council voted Thursday night for the second time not to grant the national Jewish fraternity Alpha Epsilon Pi official sponsorship. The IFC had previously rejected AEPi sponsorship during Winter term, but decided to give AEPi another chance at sponsorship because "they had been doing a pretty good job towards satisfying the criteria for us to recognize them," IFC President Alex Lentz '07 said.

The Ninth Annual Academic Gala held at the Top of the Hop Tuesday afternoon brought undergraduates, faculty and administrators together to celebrate the achievements of the College's 200 plus senior fellows, thesis writers and students completing major projects in the creative arts.

Red Rolfe '31 is the subject of a recently released book by William Anderson entitled "The View From the Dugout: The Journals of Red Rolfe." He was a third baseman for the New York Yankees in the late 1930s and early 40s, the manager of the Detroit Tigers from 1949 to 1952 and Director of Athletics at Dartmouth College from 1954 to 1967. "The View From the Dugout" is based on Rolfe's journal, which contained extensive notes from each game he managed. Anderson, who also wrote two pictorial histories of the Detroit Tigers, is currently the director of the Department of History, Arts and Libraries for the State of Michigan.
