Protesting outside of Thompson was Professor Shelby Grantham. Grantham, a figure known for polarizing views, especially on race and gender issues, stood outside holding a sign that read "American Indians are people not mascots." Grantham was unavailable for comment.

After an amazing come-from-behind win last weekend at the Yale Bowl, Princeton (8-1, 5-1 Ivy) has muddled the championship picture. A Yale win in that game would have secured the Ivy title for the Bulldogs, but after taking the game 34-31, the Tigers are now assured of at least a share of the Ivy League title if they can defeat Dartmouth (2-7, 2-4 Ivy) on their home field.

The Big Green defense had to prevent the Bears from crossing the goal line. With nothing to lose and everything to gain, the Big Green defense charged onto the field, about to protect Dartmouth's first victory at home this season.

The Big Green (1-7, 1-4 Ivy League) has demonstrated lately a penchant for falling behind early and making valiant comeback efforts that fall just short. Such uneven performances characterized Dartmouth's losses to Yale (26-14), Penn (17-10) and Cornell (28-25).

The Dartmouth Big Green used some bold moves to make a stunning comeback at Schoellkopf Field in Ithaca, N.Y. Unfortunately the team fell just short of an upset victory over Cornell, losing 28-25 to the Big Red.

Turnovers can hurt. Just ask Dartmouth head coach Buddy Teevens. Last week the Harvard Crimson defense forced three turnovers out of the Big Green squad, all of them on interceptions.

Dawson, Harvard's prolific senior running back who is on his way to breaking the all-time Ivy League rushing record held by "Big" Ed Marinaro, rushed for 164 yards on 26 carries, and scored three of Harvard's four touchdowns. He was responsible for all of the scoring before the half, which the Crimson entered with a 21-0 lead. Most importantly, however, he set the ball rolling in the right direction for Harvard at Memorial Field on a wet afternoon.

Starting quarterback Liam O'Hagan was sidelined early in the season, and backup Chris Pizzotti stepped in to carry the Crimson's reins. Pizzotti powered the Crimson to a 5-0 start behind solid numbers. He completed 61 of 115 passes (a 53.0 completion percentage) for 904 yards, four interceptions and five touchdowns. He threw for an average of 180.8 yards-per-game. Most important of all was his flawless record.

The Dartmouth Big Green (1-5, 1-2 Ivy League) footballers held up five fingers as they charged off the field Saturday afternoon. The opened palm stood for the hope that the men in green will finish the season on a 5-0 tear and win a share of the Ivy League championship following their first victory today, a 20-7 shellacking of the Columbia University Lions (3-3, 0-3 Ivy League). While the sentiment is genuine, the road to that title is paved with difficulties.

"That was a tough one," quarterback Mike Fritz '07 said. "There was a lot of emotion out on that field Saturday. We played hard, but it just wasn't enough." Fritz did play hard, completing 15 of 26 attempts for 147 yards through the air. He also rushed 10 times for 74 yards, including a blazing 36-yard scamper to tie the game at 7-7 early in the contest.

Randolph finished Saturday's game at Memorial Field in Hanover hitting 20 of 32 attempts for 259- yards and a touchdown. The Big Green fell behind early in the contest when Holy Cross' sophomore tailback Terrance Gass drove the ball into the endzone from three yards out, capping a seven-play, 53-yard drive. Dartmouth responded quickly, however, as quarterback Mike Fritz '07 darted across the field and scored on a 30-yard run, tying the game at seven-all. The Big Green then took the lead 14-7 in the second quarter when emerging running back, sophomore Hudson Smythe '09, ran the ball in from one yard out. The Crusaders were able to cut the lead to 14-10 before halftime on a 20-yard field goal by senior kicker Mike DeSantis. Dartmouth charged off the field at the midway point, having a halftime lead and poised to emerge victorious in front of a huge crowd filled with alumni.

What seemed like a momentous third-down stop for the Big Green's defense turned into a backbreaking pass interference penalty. The Dartmouth bench erupted in shouts at the officiating crew, as did the Big Green fans. Nonetheless, the call stood and New York Governor George Pataki, a Yale alumnus, sat smiling in the Bulldogs' cheering section of Memorial Field.

Unfortunately, Bash's return and 255 yards passing from quarterback Mike Fritz '07 were not enough to defeat the Quakers at home. UPenn escaped a late Big Green comeback to earn a 17-10 victory to the echoing of fans' shouts off of the nearly empty steel-and-concrete mass that is Franklin Field.

When the two tremendous teams from the Granite State met for the first time in 1901, the Big Green handed the Wildcats a 51-0 drubbing. Dartmouth continued to dominate UNH for 71 years before the Wildcats clawed their way back to the top of the New Hampshire jungle with a nail-biting 10-9 victory over the Big Green in 1973.

"I loved Michael Jordan of course," said Wright, a sophomore at the College and a member of the baseball team. Unlike Jordan, however, Wright has no need to have signs fed to him by google-eyed opposing catchers.
