‘What did you do this break?’ is a week-long feature covering students’ experiences and adventures over our extra-long six-week winter break.

Gabby Josebachvili '15 took a trip to Vietnam to visit her sister, Maia Josebachvili '05, who is spending the year traveling the world.

"I spent two weeks in Vietnam, starting in Hanoi, the main city in the North, and ending in Ho Chi Minh City in the South. By doing overland travel, I got to see so much, from ancient ruins to swampy marshlands to bustling cities to beautiful beaches and caves. I took overnight trains where I shared a room with locals, and ate ‘gao lao’, a Vietnamese noodle special. The most interesting part of the trip was seeing how the Vietnamese portray the war in museums and how there is still a lot of damage, mostly with the use of chemical warfare. Overall, the best word I can think of to describe the trip is surreal."
